Wheel Throwing | Jane Hockensmith-Reich instructor
Tuesdays, 6:30–9:00 | January 12 – March 2

adults, limit 8 students
Beginning to intermediate wheel-thrown pottery. Develop throwing skills, concentrating on pleasing classic forms. More experienced students can challenge themselves with altered forms, slip trailing, lids or tea pots.
$125 + $25 materials fee (includes first bag of clay and firings)

Jane has been a full-time craftsperson for 30 years, making ash-splint baskets for five years then switching to pottery. She is self-taught, learning wheel throwing and glaze chemistry from friends and books. She sells her work at Yellow Springs pottery and various fine art fairs around the country.

Handbuilding | Cindy Butler-Jones instructor
Wednesdays, 6:30–9:00 | January 6 – February 24

adults, limit 8 students
Handbuilding offers one of the most creative ways to work in clay. Come make your own functional or sculptural work of art. This class is good for beginners thru advanced students.
$125 + $25 materials fee (includes first bag of clay and firings)

Cindy has an undergraduate degree in Art Ed. from Capital University and an M.A. in Art Ed. and Ceramics from The Ohio State University. She has been a studio potter for 35 years, and is presently teaching ceramics at Sinclair Community College.

Mosaics from Handmade Tiles | Lisa Wolters instructor
Mondays, 6:30–9:00 | January 11 – March 1

adults, limit 8 students
Create focus tiles for use in mosaic projects or decorative tiles for your home. Learn about adhesives and materials used in tiling and mosaic. Complete a mosaic project of your choice. No experience required.
$125 + $25 materials fee (includes first bag of clay and firings)

Lisa graduated from The Ohio State University with a B.S. in Industrial Design. She has been creating mosaic projects for over ten years and is the manager of JBCP.

Birds of Clay: Kids Sculpting Nature | Allison Paul instructor
Tuesdays, 3:30 – 5:00 | January 12 – March 2

grades 4 thru 6, limit 8 students
An exploration of birds and their habitats guide the ceramic practice in this session using handbuilding techniques, objects from nature, and imagination to create decorative and functional pottery. Design funky egg cups with bird feet, birdhouses, contemporary teapots, and make music through sculpted ocarinas or whistles.
$125 + $25 materials fee (includes clay and firings)

Allison Paul recently completed her master’s degree in art education at Florida State University. She earned a B.A. from Earlham College. She has taught in a variety of settings including public and independent schools, community centers and museums.

Functional Critters Large and Small | Eve Sturm instructor
Wednesdays, 3:30 – 5:00 | February 3 – March 24

grades K thru 3, limit 8 students
Young animal lovers unite to create everyday useful critter vessels, from frog scrubby holders to dragon banks and everything in between.
$125 + $25 materials fee (includes clay and firings)

Eve is a mother of two and a self-taught artist. With a degree in child development, she has been teaching school aged children for nearly fifteen years. Currently she is playing in the clay with the children who attend her classes at JBCP.

Family Totem Pole Workshop | Alice Robrish instructor
Fridays, 7:00–9:00 | January 22 – February 5

Families with children ages 5 and up; Class size: 2–6 families
After Alice shows totem photos and demos the sculpting process, each family member will sculpt something s/he likes to do, or that the family likes to do together. The sculptures, after being fired and painted, will be threaded on a metal rod and mounted on a wood base to create a family totem pole — a meaningful family keepsake.
$40 per person + $25 materials fee per family
(includes clay, firings and totem materials)

Since earning a BA in studio art from the U of Maryland in 1980, Alice has pursued a career of teaching and sculpting in clay. Her figurative sculpture has been exhibited in galleries in the mid-west and on the east coast. She taught the Family Totem Pole Workshop at Project Jericho during the summer and teaches privately in her Yellow Springs studio.
